Cuddly Little Ewok (from Star Wars!)

In the early, early stages of making a terrarium for boyfriend (basically a little garden in a bowl that you arrange in a scene), and I'm creating a star wars theme.  All I've done so far is make a little Ewok.

 It looks a bit silly- like a misshapen teddy bear with an orange sack on its head- which is essentially an Ewok!  I don't have a bowl or any other equipment so all my little Ewok can do is guard my books.

Star Trek Dress

Star Trek dresss!  I used New Look pattern 6048 and a Star Trek duvet cover I bought off the interwebs.  My first attempt was way too big so I took the dress apart and re cut the pieces a size smaller- I also decided that there was too much of the Star Trek fabric and I took off the skirt.  I bought some blue camouflage fabric from the market for a totally inspired creation.  The bodice section was still way too big even though I re cut it from a 12 to a 10 but then I realised that it's an American pattern (doh) and they have big sizes so an American 10 is a UK 14.  Anyway I couldn't be bothered to re-cut the pattern so I just cut a bunch of the back. I think I might make it a bit shorter but we'll see.

Felt Star Trek Christmas Stocking

Well it might have made more sense to publish before Christmas but I was making it for boyfriend and I didn't want him to see ahead of time- although since he didn't really notice it even after I waved it in front of his face it probably wouldn't have mattered.



A few months ago I started working my way through Star Trek: The Next Generation (bringing back some lovely memories of a childhood spent watching TNG marathons on sunny Saturday afternoons) and boyfriend got in on the act and we watched together as he got increasingly upset ("why was this cancelled? It was really one of the best things on TV?").  We moved on from that to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and re-realised how much we love Colm Meany and his portrayal of Chief O'Brien.


Anyway, when I decided to make him a Christmas stocking the only choice was to make it look like a Star Trek uniform (there have been many variations but I chose the red Command uniforms from TNG that had the most red in them to make it Christmassy). 

I drew a stocking shape by hand, cut it out of paper and used that to but out my fabric pieces.   I used red, black, and cream felt and hand sewed it all together.  I used the cream for the collar 'pips' and the logo/communicator. 

 
Here it is looking even more awesome given that it is stuffed with and on top of presents!

Felt Tie-Fighter

After a few weeks of looking at an increasingly crumpled paper tie-fighter prototype I finally got my act together and made one from felt.   A tie-fighter, btw, is a flying hexagonal thingymabob form Star Wars much loved by Star Wars fans, and very expensive to buy in lego form.

Look Book- Sci-tastic

This one was quite fun; looking up clothes and accessories that are sci-fi inspired.  Obviously, as you can see, silver was a big colour this week- the colour of robots and jet packs.  Silver never goes out of style and it's inevitable abundance in the future is proof that the people of the future are much smarter than we.  Probably because they evolved from sneaky cockroaches after the first human race went extinct due to deforestation or nuclear winter, all we all just got a bit bored and started shooting each other or whatever.  Anyway...the sci-fi/fantasy genre has great scope for fashion ideas and groovy footwear, and I share this with you.
